Studies over many years have extolled the age-fighting properties of Pomegranates. While red wine and green tea have long been praised for their high amounts of free radical-fighting antioxidants, recent studies have found that whole pomegranate fruits have three times more antioxidant activity.

What are the benefits of antioxidants?

Antioxidants can decrease your risk of oxidative stress that exposes you to several serious diseases and chronic inflammation. In detail, research shows that the antioxidants in pomegranates help prevent atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), they decrease carotid artery thickness and improve cardiac blood flow.

Many grocery stores now have the nutrient rich pomegranate fruit packaged and separated from the rind for your convenience and eating pleasure. You can also purchase organic pomegranate extract powder to mix in your “green drinks” and smoothies.

Here’s one of my favorite recipes:

  • Kale
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • ¼ tsp pink Himalayan Rock Salt
  • top with Pomegranates
